Pada tahap ini, anak anak mulai menggunakan penalaran primitif dan ingin tahu jawaban atas semua bentuk pertanyaan.Piaget menyebut pada periode waktu ini anak anak tampaknya begitu yakin tantang pengetahuan dan pemahaman mereka, tetapi belum begitu sadar bagaimana mereka tahu apa yang mereka ketahui itu.

Lebih jelasnya mereka mengatakan mengetahui sesuatu, tetapi mengetahuinya dengan cara tidak menggunakan pemikiran rasional.Centration terbukti paling jelas terjadi pada awal anak anak yang kekurangan pemahaman conservation. Conservation adalah suatu keyakinan akan keabadian atribut objek atau situasi tertentu terlepas dari perubahan yang bersifat dangkal. Seorang dewasa akan dapat membedakan dengan jelas jumlah suatu cairan (air) yang dipindah dari sebuah piring kedalam gelas dengan mengatakan jumlah cairan tetap sama.

Tetapi tidak dengan anak kecil, sebaliknya mereka tertipu oleh tinggi cairan akibat tinggi gelas.Karakteristik lain anak anak praperasional adalah mereka menanyakan serentetan pertanyaan. Tak ada yang boleh menjerit atau bicara berteriak-teriak.Bila kemudian si kecil menjadi pendiam di sekolah bukan berarti dia jago kandang atau pengecut. Sisi positif dari sikapnya itu adalah bahwa anak paham ia tak boleh berbuat semaunya seperti di rumah. Ia juga memahami bahwa ia harus bersikap sopan pada guru dan teman. All paperwork must be received before your child may start.Before you leave your child the first day, it is wise to make a visit with the child during my regular day care hours (mornings are best, since the children sleep in the afternoons).

This visit is a good time to bring any items you need to leave here (e.g., diapers, extra clothing, etc.) I am required to have a complete change of clothes for each child. If you or your child is very uneasy about day care, at least two visits are recommended: the first during my off hours when your child will not be overwhelmed by the other children and the noise, and will have all the toys available to him/her. It is preferred that no toys be brought from home, I will not be responsible for toys from home that get broken or lost at day care. The responsibility remains with the child and the parents.OUTDOOR PLAYPlease dress your child appropriately for the current weather, and in play clothes (with shoes that adequately protect the feet and are not slick-soled — tennis shoes are a good choice).

When the weather cooperates we will spend time outdoors, ranging from a walk to more time spent outside as the weather permits.NAPSAll children under the age of five are required to have a rest time (and I haven’t met one yet who doesn’t need it!). I will provide a safe, warm, quiet place for your child to rest. Children two and older will sleep on a mat or sleeping bag in the quiet room. Children under the age of two will always be in a crib or playpen.
